With a Twist...Creatively Speaking that is

Do you tend you use your crafty supplies as how they are made to appear? Or follow certain rules of how a flower should look? Do you like the realistic look of flowers but have wanted to stretch your imagination? Then this post is for you!

The AECP class, "With a Twist" taught me how to stretch my stamps and crafty goodies to create new looks! When my sister-in-law had her first child, she painted her nursery in the colors Orange-Green-and Yellow. Quite an untraditional color palette for a newborn. Yet, the colors blended beautifully. And so, inspired by those colors, I chose to create this card.

The Altenew Supplies I used for this card are:

I also used a gold metallic water brush and spectrum noir tri-blend alcohol markers for the flowers.

I started with inking the Lotus Image directly onto white cardstock. Using the alcohol markers, I created the orange, green and yellow markings on the flower. I was intending this flower to be bold and striking rather than softly blended. From there I masked the lotus flower and placed the tulle stencil on top gently ink blending a shade of orange ink.

I added my sentiment and cut the card stock to approx 3 3/4 x 5". I adhered the white cardstock to a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of yellow cardstock and then added the gold thread. To Complete the card, I adhered panel to a green shade of cardstock, Inked the edges with black ink, added a bit of gold sequins, added gold markings to my flower and gave the overall card a light wash of gold splatters.

This next card only uses 4 items, 3 of which are Washi Tape, yet it looks so elegant! The recipient will think you bought the card at a boutique! I made this card to pair " With a Twist Catagory " as Washi Tape is generally not the main source of card making. Washi is catagorically used to add a touch of something to a project, but in this case, It's the Main Player!

Altenew Products used to make this card:

  • Signature Word Die Set

  • Cool Summer Night Slim Washi Tape Set

  • Painted Grid Washi Tape

  • Marsh Lane Wide Washi Tape

Start by placing the Marsh Lane Washi on a 4.25 x 5 1/2 card stock panel. Add two strips of the Painted Grid Washi about an inch from the bottom of card, along with a strip of Cool summer night washi. Adhere the panel to your A2 Card base, Add your sentiment and Voila! Easy Peasy Card that is very pleasing to the eye!

___________________________________________________________________________________________Last up is a card using my favorite technique...Watercoloring!! I just love how each card I create with watercolor is a ONE of a kind!! But I have to Twist it Up and in this case, I'm going to use different mediums to blend with my watercoloring!

To make this next card, I started with an A2 size base (use water color paper). I gave the paper a water wash and using Altenew's 36 water color pan set, blended the colors of Lagoon and Forest Glades on the water color paper. I then heat set the card. I then ran the card thru my Sizzix using the Majestic Bloom 3D Embossing Folder. IMPORTANT TIP: make sure you place the color side on the debossed side of the folder so your image POPS! With Altenew folders the debossed side is the same side of the package printing. I then took Altenew's Gold Pigment Ink and gently rubbed it against the Majestic Bloom Image. Don't push too hard though! Have a gentle hand and swipe a few times.

Time for the finishing touches! I took Altenew's Signature Word Die for the sentiment, added satin white sequins and of course added a few splatter using my left over Forest Glade Inks. Till next time! HUGS!
